The Bridges is a residential rehab in Hull, which is run by RAPt. It's for men who have problems with drugs and alcohol, including those who have been in prison and need help to remain free from drugs and alcohol on the outside. It provides a secure environment, and experience of living drug and alcohol free through intensive treatment for addiction, combined with therapy to tackle offending behaviour. Men are 29 times more likely to die during the week following release from prison than the general population. 59% of deaths were found to be drug related. Men come out of prison and want their lives to be different, but they often don’t have the structure and support to facilitate that change. The programme therefore also provides guidance on the practical elements of resettlement such as budgeting for and cooking meals, finding and managing somewhere to live, education or training – for people who have spent years, sometimes decades of their life in prison, these practicalities can seem insurmountable.
