Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Father was an engineer, who served his time in the Clyde shipyards before joining IBM Greenock in 1953. He was an 'IBM'er' until he retired at the age of 62.
My father and mother drove from their home in Greenock, Scotland to visit my family and other relatives across England, several times a year for over 30 years. He knew the routes like the back of his hand, so in 1997, when he failed to arrive in Kenilworth from his brother's house in London, I was very concerned. It was late in the evening and after several calls to the police that father phoned. He was in Gloucester and rather upset about not knowing how he came to be there and not in Warwickshire. Dementia was diagnosed about two years later.
My father suffered the progressive impact of dementia (Alzheimers) for more than 7 years before his body caught-up with the deterioration of his mind and he passed away at the age of 85.
I now have a close childhood friend, the same age as I am (64), who has early stage dementia.
This condition knows no boundaries, so defeating it will take time and a lot of research finance. Please help if you can.
Thank you.
