Story
I'm back - and doing more fundraising!
I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in September 2022. Since then, I have had four rounds of intensive chemotherapy, developed neutropenic sepsis twice, and had a 5-week spell on a ventilator in intensive care after contracting pneumonia. It's been a rollercoaster!
But the only reason I'm here today, in minimal residual disease remission, is because of the tremendous leaps and bounds in research that have happened in acute leukaemia treatment over the past 5 to 10 years. I can now live a relatively normal life, with two-monthly check-ups being my only contact with hospital. A mere 15 years ago, even the type of AML I had - one which is relatively well studied and treatable - could have been a death sentence on diagnosis.
So that's why I want to raise as much money as possible to go towards this vital research which saves the lives of blood cancer patients of all ages. I'm planning to host a coffee morning in Salisbury in February or March (stay tuned!), but please do donate in your own time too. It would mean the world to me and many others affected by blood cancer.
Thanks in advance.
