Story
Did you know that 1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime?
I am one of those unfortunate people and I really wish that I had had a PSA check before I started having problems with my prostate 2 years ago. As a result of my ignorance I now have stage 4 (Gleason scale 9) prostate cancer which has spread throughout the body. I’ve had hormone and radiation therapy, and I’m really hoping that the cancer has stabilised but I won’t know for a while.
I could write a small book on the journey so far but biopsies and radiation therapy have life changing results - I wish I had asked more questions before I went down those routes - and the side effects of hormone therapy have been, and still are, difficult to manage. Hot flushes, mood swings, tiredness, terrible wind (I need a RADAR key now) can be depressing but luckily I have a wonderful wife, who had Hodgkins disease, aged 23, and a year of horrible chemotherapy, who is incredibly supportive.
I’m taking on the Run 50 Miles challenge in October for Prostate Cancer Research to help raise awareness of this disease and for you youngsters out there to get checked out before it’s too late. Please support me during this challenge by donating what you can to Prostate Cancer Research. Every donation you make helps advance their mission to create a world free from the impact of prostate cancer.
