UPDATE ON 26 SEPTEMBER 2005
I am delighted to confirm that the trip was successful and all of the objectives were achieved. The distance covered was 1011 miles in 10 days. No punctures, one nasty crash, some 54000 feet of climbing and the full range of weather you would expect when travelling from one end of the UK to the other!
I will spare you the details of the crash save that, in addition to the "road rash", my cycling helmet was destroyed. It could clearly have been a very different outcome. Spread the word - never, ever cycle without a cycling helmet.
The journey was tougher than I had expected but very, very fulfilling.
A BIG THANK YOU to all of of my sponsors. Your generosity was really motivating and the charity is fantastically grateful for the support. The monies will be put to very good use.
With best wishes
Charles
THE ORIGINAL CHALLENGE
The objective: 1000 miles in 10 days (!) from Lands End to John O'Groats to raise sponsorship for WellChild.
WellChild and its nurses, doctors and volunteers are involved in many areas of childrens' health, funding research to develop better treatments and cures for childhood illnesses, providing nurses and volunteers to give much needed support to families with sick children as well as raising the profile of child health with policy makers - all aimed at providing vital support for chronically sick children and their families.
I have personally experienced the benefits of this research. My son, Harry, had a kidney removed some years ago - he is now a healthy 17 year old! This an opportunity to give something back but I need your help and support in the form of much needed sponsorship.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Wellchild will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
