Burgh Island swim · 14 August 2011

At least 1.9 million children in the UK are struggling to talk and understand words.  We give children and young people the skills they need so they aren't left behind. We do this by creating tools for schools and nurseries, giving advice and guidance to families and putting pressure on politicians.

Story

Well, I did it ! We were blessed with a fine sunny afternoon, but it was windy and wind means waves. Big ones.

The waves were pretty huge on the south side of the island, and there were some pretty sharp rocks, but I managed to stay afloat, avoid the rocks and complete the one mile swim round Burgh Island in Devon.

Thank you so much for all donations so far. I am hugely grateful. People have been incredibly generous, so I am well on the way to raising my target amount for ICAN's appeal.

2011 is the National Year of Communication, and ICAN has launched a special appeal for this year (Dame Judi Dench is the patron) called the Million Lost Voices Appeal.

If you haven't yet donated but would like to, don't worry there's plenty of time, this page will be up for a few more weeks.

Donating through JustGiving is simple. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Charles.
