Story
Gemma & I are running the Manchester half marathon on Sunday 9th October to raise money for the charity Tommy’s
If you’ve never heard of Tommy’s before, you could say you’re quite lucky.
Tommy’s is a pregnancy charity working to make the UK the safest place in the world to give birth. They believe every parent has the right to a healthy pregnancy and baby. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss – and most parents never find out why due to a shocking lack of research..
What Tommy’s do:
• We fund pioneering research to identify why pregnancy goes wrong, which helps us to understand how we can prevent complications and loss, as well as enabling specialist care for people at our clinics, research centres and across the NHS.
• We provide expert, midwife-led advice for parents before, during and after pregnancy, working together towards safer, healthier pregnancies.
• We foster a connected, caring community, united in our goal to make pregnancy safer for all and advocating for and supporting those who have lost babies.
They believe, as do I, that every baby lost is one too many.
As many already know, Barnaby was born at 33 weeks & 5 days, 4lb 10oz and spent 12 days in the NICU at Burton Hospital. Not walking out of the hospital the same day with your baby and leaving them in an incubator was one of the hardest things I had to do. Being hooked up to machines & only being allowed 4 hours a day once a day with him was tough, but I was actually one of the lucky ones. Looking at him now, you wouldn’t think any different, & I thank my lucky stars every day that my beautiful baby boy is healthy and happy.
But unfortunately, some people aren’t that lucky. We are running to raise money for this charity to help fund research into miscarriage, still birth & premature births so they can keep saving babies lives.
Any donations & support will be hugely appreciated 🏃🏽♀️ 💜
