Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In the UK and around the world, we make sure children stay safe, healthy and keep learning, so they can become who they want to be.

Story

We all have a great number of requests for charitable donations but please read on.

The war in Ukraine has obviously dominated world news since the invasion by Russia on Feb 24th and obviously whilst people of all ages are vulnerable in war, it is children who are the most vulnerable, and substantial sums of money need to be raised to provide everything from food, clean water, shelter, medical care, education, clothing and so the list goes on.

I asked the parachute company what jumping out of a plane at 13,000 feet (for the first time at the age of 64!) would feel like and they said "terrifying", but they said that "that was the whole point".

We've all been very moved by the war in Ukraine so I ask you to give as generously as you can.

Ukraine Crisis Cost Examples:

75p could pay for one face mask to keep a health worker safe

£7.50 could buy a warm blanket for a child who has been forced to flee their home

£11 could help one child access preschool education

£12 could provide a family with a hygiene kit, with essential items like towels, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes

£15 could pay for cleaning supplies to sanitise a school for one week

£15 could provide a school kit with essential items like bags, notebooks, pens and pencils so children don't miss out on important learning

£38 could help a survivor of violence access specialised services such as legal support, health services or safe shelter

£40 could provide a kitchen kit to a displaced family, with essential items like pots, bowls and eating utensils

£75 could provide food supplies for one month to a displaced family who have been forced to flee their home

£225 could provide emergency shelter and other supplies to a displaced family who have been forced to flee their home

£485 could help a family make it through winter with warm clothes, blankets, heathers and fuel

£745 could set up and run a mobile Child Friendly
Space, so children have a safe and supportive place to socialise, play and overcome their experiences

£1,500 could pay for the running costs of a hospital for one month, including cleaning supplies and fuel

Statistics regarding the scale of the Ukraine Crisis

More than 5 million people have now fled the violence in Ukraine since the 24th of February. Half are estimated to be children.

More than 450 children have been killed or injured although this figure is believed to be far higher.

More than 63,000 babies are estimated to have been born into war in Ukraine in the past two months and into conditions that could have a lifelong impact on their mental health.

The number of refugees crossing the Isaccea border (Ukraine into Romania) to flee violence and food shortages in Mykolaiv, Mariupol and Kherson has risen to more than 2,000 a day. The border lies in the middle of the Danube with a ferry boat working 24 hours a day to bring refugees to safety in Romania.

As of 18 April, the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science says that over 900 education institutions have been damaged, and another 95 completely destroyed.

Latest figures put the number of total deaths as a result of the Ukraine Crisis at 2,224.
