Established in 2006 we raise money and provide financial support to serve the poorest and vulnerable streetchildren in the Philippines. We help fund staff salaries, food, utilities and grants to the organisation Kanlungan, for special projects. We also organise vists to the projects from the UK.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Philippines is rapidly developing but with areas of extreme poverty, especially in Metro Manila. UNICEF estimate that there are over 150,000 street children in Metro Manila. Many work on the streets but live with their families, often in urban slums. Others have left home and live on the streets where they are at risk of sexual abuse.

Streetlight provides vital quarterly financial support for Kanlungan’s (a local Filipino charity) day-to-day costs: including salaries, food & utility bills!

Kanlungan projects cover:

Street education with street children and
street families where help ranges from first aid to
counselling.

A drop-in centre and temporary shelter

in Malate (the old red light district of Manila). At this oasis, children with no home are fed, have a chance to get some education, be counselled and sheltered.

Day centres for children who work on the streets and live in urban slums.

There are now two of these centres. Lively places, where children can get an education and also get a meal to help them concentrate on their studies in the afternoon! The team are also building strong relationships with the childrens’ families.

Residential Care and Training Centres

One for girls at Laguna Province just south of Manila and one for boys in a more rural setting. Here children live in an extended family environment, receive skills training and go to the local schools.

After Care

to reunite children with their families and make the process as smooth as possible.

Employment Projects

For the older boys. These include the Farm project in Cavite Province
south of Manila, a second-hand shop selling goods ranging from washing machines to bikes, and a coffee shop in the heart of Manila.

More about Streetlight
We also make grants for special projects. These have included helping
Kanlungan buy its own drop-in centre, fitting out the coffee shop and
contributing to a dormitory block for the boys at the farm.
100% of any financial gift goes to support the work of Kanlungan.

£15 will feed a street child for a month, while £25 a month will pay a
quarter of a “houseparent” salary at the Malate Centre.

Streetlight is run by volunteers so running costs are minimal. And these costs are more than covered by the Trustees financial contributions.

Any donations are in good hands, im sure you may have seen my social media images but also please click link below for a short video of my experience in the Philipines.
