The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

Well I made it to the finish line, the knee held up more or less and I can still walk! I crossed the line in 4 hours 43 minutes which was actually not that far off my goal (4:30ish) before I got injured so I was pretty happy. I won’t say it wasn’t painful and the course was a not terribly attractive and very hilly dual carriageway running between Marathonas and Athens but the finish was amazing and the Greek villagers who braved the 25mph (fortunately tail) winds, unseasonal 10C cold and rain to cheer the runners on and hand out olive branches made up for it.

Thanks again to everyone who has donated to Macmillan, it means a lot to me!

Just under a week to go and just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who's sponsored me. I've been struggling with knee problems for the last 3 weeks so I've had to ditch any time goals that I had but I'm still intending to get round, however slowly (and painfully).

Anyone who's visiting the page looking to sponsor me I should add a disclaimer at this point – there is now a significantly higher chance that injury will prevent me completing the race so I’d be equally delighted with any post-event sponsorship contingent on me finishing the thing!!

Fingers crossed I get to the end!!

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

I am running the Athens Classic Marathon on November 13th this year in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

http://www.athensclassicmarathon.gr

I have my own place in the race and I'm making my own way there so I have no particular target I have to reach, but it would mean a lot to me if you could spare the odd pound or the cost of a pint to donate to Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan perform an essential function within cancer care in the UK with over 3500 Macmillan nurses working in hospitals and communities providing medical, practical and emotional support to patients and their families. Unfortunately cancer is something that has directly impacted my family as well as the families of many of my close friends, and organisations such as Macmillan that make the process that little bit easier or more dignified are invaluable.

On a more selfish note, any support you can give will also help me go out on those long training runs when I would rather be at the pub and on race day, drag myself up the hills.... And I really really don't like running up hills. In fact I don't particularly like running all that much which is another reason to sponsor me!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

I really appreciate your support and many thanks for any donations to Macmillan, whatever size.
