Story
Cancer, that word that everybody dreads. My whole world was turned upside down finding out that my Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
13/06/17 Three weeks after retiring from 30 years in the army my Dad was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer. Terminal was the heartbreaking diagnosis we were given with certainty that it was inoperable.
Despite a single torturing round of chemo, this was a battle we knew we could never win. Pregnant at the time I knew I had to remain positive and turn this awful news into something positive. At the time signing up for the Edinburgh Marathon I really hoped my Dad would be there cheering me on at the side line. But unfortunately, my Dad lost his battle on the 23/09/17 just four short months after his diagnosis and two whole weeks before my son and his first grandson was born.
It happens to so many people, but you never think it will happen to somebody you love so dearly. Seven months after giving birth to my baby boy, I will run the Edinburgh marathon to raise money for Macmillan nurses, who do a fabulous job every single day. I run this marathon for my hero & best friend.
Together we will never give up the fight against cancer. Any donations would be greatly appreciated xx
