The Critical care unit at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth treats over 1700 seriously ill patients every year. Spring Intensive Care is a registered charity that supports the unit and relies totally on voluntary donations which are used to ensure that critically ill patients in Plymouth get the best care possible. The Charity has used its funds to purchase life saving equipment, fund nurse education and support the families of critically ill patients.
On the 7th of April 2014 Charlotte was involved in a serious road traffic accident, on her journey back to Portsmouth from Plymouth. She suffered 13 broken bones, a punctured lung, liver lacerations and a brain hemorrhage in addition to a shattered pelvis which is now held together by a metal fixing.
On arrival at Derriford Hospital, Charlotte was put into a medically induced coma where she remained for 11 days in intensive care. Had it not had been for the treatment she received from staff on the intensive care unit she would not be here with us today
