Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re striving for a cure, by revolutionising the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia.

Story

On the 1st September I will be running the Cheshire Half Marathon for Alzheimer's Research UK.

Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common cause of dementia, affecting around six in every 10 people. Alzheimer’s Disease affects majority of people over the age of 65, however the disease can still affect younger people, known as early-onset Alzheimer’s. It’s thought that over 42,000, or around 5% of people with Alzheimer’s are under 65 years old.

Currently, the prognosis of Alzheimer’s Disease is poor with no effective therapies that prevent or slow down progression. Treatments available can only help alleviate symptoms of the disease. Between 2002 and 2012, the success rate for Alzheimer's disease trials was 0.4%.

Alzheimer's Research UK has set out on a mission to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025. This will only be possible through the support of donations. All donations to Alzheimer’s Research UK fund resources to power research and improve understanding to defeat this debilitating disease.

Please help support such a worthy cause with making any donation possible, large or small!
