Story

Please help me and my babies to raise a thank-you contribution to the Zephyr's Centre at Nottingham City Hospital by participating in this just-for-fun 'sweepstake' on baby Acorn's birth weight and apparent anatomy/sex. In case we're wonderfully oversubscribed with entrants, please also guess a time of birth in case we need a tie-breaker.

What do I need to do?

Just make a donation of at least £1, and then message me (Charlotte) on either Facebook, Instagram or any other preferred route to submit your guess for Acorn's:

  • birth weight (ideally in lbs and oz although I can convert kgs);
  • anatomy/biological sex;
  • (and in case a tiebreaker is needed) their time of birth using 24h clock.

What do I get if I win?

  1. Sweet, sweet bragging rights.
  2. A terribly photoshopped picture of you holding the baby. As nobody is likely to meet Acorn in the flesh for several months, you'll be the envy of at least their grandparents if noone else!

Why Zephyr's Centre at Nottingham City Hospital?

You all may know that this is my ninth pregnancy, the twelfth baby that I have carried however briefly (due to three sets of twins), and one of almost twenty embryos that we either conceived naturally or through IVF in the nine years we've been trying to start a family. The anxiety and strong emotions I have felt throughout this pregnancy are hard to articulate. I have been living with PTSD for years now and it has been hard to find spaces where I have felt safe and able to express my feelings. One place that has really been there for me throughout Acorn's gestation is Zephyr's, a charity based at Nottingham City Hospital to provide care to families dealing with pregnancy loss and infant/child loss.  They welcomed me at monthly meetings where I got to connect with other women with experiences like mine, where I could learn about maternity services and baby care in a safe way that recognised how triggering these topics can be, that not only allowed but encouraged me to talk about my miscarried babies, and they introduced me to bereavement midwives and specialist mental health providers as well as offering advice and support at every turn. I don't think I could have got through this without them, and I want to thank them by helping to put something back in their kitty (not least in recognition of how many of their teabags and custard creams I've gone through!).

Why JustGiving? Is there an alternative?

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and safe. JustGiving will never compromise your privacy. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. The charity told me this is the best way to get the most money going directly to them, both due to getting Gift Aid and avoiding platform fees. Having said all that, if you prefer to donate directly to me, for me to put your contribution in the pot for you, no problem! Message me and we can do this.

The last word

Just being able to be positive enough to presume a happy ending to this pregnancy and make a silly sweepstake out of it is a huge step for me - thank you for helping me celebrate it!

ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU!! Love from all of us.
