UPDATE:
Kaiki came back to us happy and healthy, but developed some sort of skin problem, possibly an allergy to something in the compound (or maybe even grass!) and his ears got bad again. Obviously we had not completely cleared up the problem, so we sent him back to Nowzad about a month ago. The full bill will likely at least 400 dollars, but possibly more, so I have raised the fundraising goal to 1100, since his original bill was 700. Photos of our favorite wagging tail are forthcoming!
--------------------
Kaiki is still with us at the Taimani St.5 house, but he's not been doing well. He's had untreated ear infections, likely for years now, and a rather persistent form of mange. After getting vets to come out and treat him and vaccinate him several times and trying to care for him at home, we've decided instead to send him to the Nowzad Clinic for 2 weeks, possibly more. He needs to have his ears cleaned twice a day for bacterial and fungal infections and get medicine and medicated baths as well. I have been able to clean his ears intermittently, but when I try to do it regularly, he hides from me under the takht, where we cannot reach him or coax him out. After months of trying to treat him at home, it seems time to get better, consistent, professional help.
Kaiki will be staying at the Nowzad clinic for at least 14 days at 10USD/day as a boarding fee, getting at least 3 medicated baths at 40USD/bath, and getting treatments on his ears as well as oral and intravenous medication. I will make sure that he gets this treatment and will cover all costs if necessary, but any donations would be greatly appreciated, because his care has been expensive. I will give updates on his health here when I hear from his vet, Dr. Hadin.
