Story

THANK YOU FOR VISITING THIS PAGE! I must let you know that due to unforeseen circumstances I am now unable to take part in the Vietnam to Cambodia Challenge. I am heartbroken as this challenge was very sentimental but thankfully Eddies mum Louise and her friend Ann (new hip and all) will still be taking part in this mammoth challenge!

I want to thank you all for your support so far, it means so much! Donations will still be going to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust but if you wish to get in touch please do so!

Go on Louise and Ann!! You can do it!!

Most of you may know that in 2016 I lost my oldest and dearest friend Eddie to that illness that we all have been hit by at some point in our lives, Cancer! In Eddies case it was Leukaemia. He was diagnosed in 2011 following a skiing trip with college.

Eddie was an amazing young man who despite receiving this news and being in and out of hospital for many years never lost sight of what he wanted to do! During this time he completed his outdoor sports college course and then went on to complete his water sports instructor training at Plas Menai. While doing all this he also continued to work as a launch lad at South Caernarfonshire Yacht Club as well as helping out with the on the water safety team for all types of sailing events where he was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award in Dinghy Week 2015.

Eddie was born and bred in Abersoch, Pen Llyn, right on the sea front so it was only natural that he developed a huge love of the outdoors and the sea. Learning to sail from a young age it clearly shows that salt water was in his veins and that showed with what courses and training he was doing.

This brings me neatly onto the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. I am raising money for this amazing charity because they rebuild confidence after cancer, using sailing to support, empower and inspire young people between the ages of 8-24 in embracing their future with optimism.

In 2000 Dame Ellen MacArthur DBE sailed with A Chacun Son Cap, a French charity for children with cancer and leukaemia. Inspired by the incredible impact sailing had on helping those children rediscover themselves in the confusing aftermath of cancer, and by their courage, spirit and humour, Ellen launched the Trust in 2003.

Eddie was given the chance to go on one of these amazing trips when he had a break in treatment. As he was a water baby this was right up his street and loved every second of it. He constantly spoke about all the things he learnt and the lovely people he met. He said it was one of the best adventures he had ever experienced.

I want to raise as much money as possible to give to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust so they can continue to help other young people like Eddie to be able to be given the same opportunity to experience the wonders of this charity.

The pain of loosing Eddie is indescribable and all who knew him miss him terribly. I know if he was still with us he would love to be doing this too!

Lots of Love,

Charlie

About the charity

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer. For many young people simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isn’t possible. So, when treatment ends the Trust’s work begins.
