Story
Hello everyone,
I am running the Reading Half Marathon for Sue Ryder UK in memory of my teacher Mrs Valerie Hume.
Mrs Hume, who was Head of History at Kendrick School, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer at just 28 years old. She died in November 2012, leaving behind her husband and 10 week old daughter. Mrs Hume was an amazing role model and her passion for learning was true inspiration to all her students. I am so proud to have been one of them.
Her passing came as a terrible shock and devastated our entire school community. Although it seems unfair that such a beautiful and incredible life was cut short in this way, I hope that something positive can arise from the tragedy.
After all, Mrs Hume always taught us to look for the silver lining in every cloud, and I want to do this by raising money for Sue Ryder UK in her memory.
Mrs Hume was a keen runner herself and completed the Reading Half Marathon last year. It was she who inspired me to train for this event and so this seems like a perfect way to remember her for the sporty, funny and caring woman that she was.
I am aiming to raise upwards of £500 for Sue Ryder Care UK to help them continue the fantastic support they give to those affected by cancer and their families. If you could click the click the button above and donate even a penny for this fantastic cause, I’ll be forever grateful. Thank you so much,
Charlotte.
