Campaign by Refuge (RCN 277424)
Team Refuge will be taking on TrekHER50 to raise funds for the UK's leading charity for survivors of domestic, sexual and gender-based abuse.

Story

This is my first ever fundraiser - and my first overseas trek!! I am so very excited, nervous and grateful for any support. 💗 😊

I've decided to take part in the 10-day TrekHER50 challenge to raise funds for Refuge (their work supports survivors worldwide, including but not exclusive to domestic abuse, slavery, human trafficking and 'honour'-based violence, please read more at the bottom of this page).

I'll be treking for 6-8 hours a day for five days in India in October 2022*this is the new date after it was postponed because of the pandemic.

So, over the next year I'll be updating this page with my progress and training - more so as we get closer to the date! I'll also do some other events outside of JustGiving to try and help fundraising along.

ANY support is most appreciated, even if it is just a share!

Thank you!!!

😊

The Charity

Refuge believes that no-one should have to live in fear of violence and abuse.

On any given day Refuge supports more than 6,500 clients, helping them rebuild their lives and overcome many different forms of violence and abuse; for example, domestic violence, sexual violence, so-called ‘honour’-based violence, human trafficking and modern slavery, and female genital mutilation. During lockdown, calls and contact to their national helpline have sky rocketed - with a 77% rise in June.

The Trek

The trip will take place over ten days and will include five days of trekking from Dharamsala, on the edge of the Himalayas through the Kingdom of Gaddi, for 6-8 hours a day.

Along the way we will visit local communities and learn the social, economic and political issues facing the women there, and how their lives are changing for the better.

Closer to the date I will be taking on training as the trip involves big ascents and descents, long hours walking, carrying luggage and the risk of altitude sickness (the highest point is Triund at 2,985m).

But I have full faith in myself as, many of you know, I am a keen gym-goer already -  I'll be updating on here along the way! :-)
