In may 2003 my son Ethan was struck down with meningitis , he was aged 3 at the time this fast and life threatening disease could of took my soon from us so quick .It was may time and we had taken Ethan to cardiff to see Thomas the tank live we had such a wounderful day and Ethan enjoyed himself so much it was that evening that are familys life was about to be turned upside down . That evening Ethan went down with a temprature like every other childs and parent as they do we gave him calpo but this didnt take Ethans temprature down so we decided to call the doctor on call we took ethan to the local hospital where he was checked at that time we were told he had a virus and to keep up the painkillers as the night went on Ethan got worse still with a temprature but very cold to touch he shivered and shaked as we held him at 3am something made my wife check him and he had the tinyest purple like pinch mark at the top of his arm so my wife called the doctor on call again to be told that it was a viral rash so we keep a bed side visual for the rest of the night by 6 am Ethan has got worse and we rang the gp again luckly it was the doctor that has seen Ethan earlyer in the evening she took one look at Ethan and we where told ethan had meningitis and she was ringing for a amblance by the time we left Lydney hospital to gloucester my son was covered in a rash . Ethan was taken from us and we where shut of the ward while the doctors and nurses did what they had to do . By the time we where able see are son again he had tube and wires coming from all over his body we where then told the next 24 to 48 hour is the most cruitical and we should prepare are self for the worst Ethan had a bed waiting for in ICU . 24 hours went by and it has started to attack Ethan white cells Ethan swelled all over he had to have a plasma transfusion . The next 2 weeks Ethan got better so they discharged him but we had to go to hospital every day for the next 2 weeks for him to have antibotics via a pump into his arm .Thankfully because of the help and support we recived Ethan servived with out all the help and hard work that meningitis trust do and give i dont know where we would be to day so i would like to give my apppreciation back to the meningitis trust and i hope you will share in this with me and dig deep and donate to this cause .
