Story
At some stage in the fog of one of the lockdowns last year Huw Powell quietly left Cheam to return home to Wales to help his sister look after his mother who is suffering with Alzheimer’s. Mr Powell, or “Powelly”, may not be known to a number of the current cohort but for a generation of the boys and girls who passed through Cheam he was the rock upon which many of Cheam’s football, athletics or cross country triumphs were built. His pre-cross country pep talks were apparently the stuff of legend and he inspired many Cheam cross country runners to chalk up successes year after year at Abberley Hall, Chandlings, Ludgrove, Pinewood and at the Prep School Nationals at Malvern, to name a few. To recognise his not insignificant contribution to Cheam and to support the worthy charity of his choice in the process, we are planning to hold “
The Cheam Division Cross Country Christmas Special
” on the 12th December at 11am.
