Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Once again I am challenging myself against the streets of Manchester on the Great Manchester Run! However, this year for a completely different cause:
Wythenshawe Renal Unit Endowment Fund – Wythenshawe Hospital, South Manchester NHS.
Who?... Why?...
On 10th Feb 2010 my Granddad, Ken Cornelius, passed away after battling various illnesses throughout his life.
He suffered with terminal kidney failure and was treated via dialysis for 5 hours a day, 3 days a week, 52 weeks a year for 11 years at Wythenshawe Hospital. In all he suffered with this disease for around 20 years, despite the pain and frustration, he always had a smile on his face!
Every penny you donate will go towards enhancing the comfort of patients receiving dialysis treatment; this includes beds, fans and the development of a sitting room. The money will also go towards the purchase of new blood pressure monitors. All equipment is vital to the ward and anything you can donate is much appreciated.
Kidney failure describes a medical condition in which the kidneys fail to adequately filter toxins and waste products from the blood. Over 3,000,000 people in the UK are at risk from chronic kidney disease and the prevalence of kidney disease is increasing at over 5% per year.
