Cheryl's Death Valley Trail Marathon · 4 February 2017

We want to ensure that every patient at Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals experiences the highest quality of care available. We raise funds for cutting edge technology, additional specialist staff and extra comforts for patients, over and above what is possible with NHS funding alone.

Story

"While we have our health we have options, we can be proactive and try to make the world a better place. People that are fighting cancer have very few choices. I want to push myself to the limits not because I have to but because I can and in doing so, raise money and awareness to help those that are fighting their own battles every day.”

From scaling the world’s highest mountains to competing in triathlons, I have conquered some of nature's greatest challenges! achievements.

Last year I completed the Death Valley Trail Half Marathon challenge in a fantastic time of 3 hours and 11 minutes, qualifying as the fastest competitor in my age category!

For my next challenge, in February 2017, I am going back to California to take on the full Death Valley Marathon.

My goal is to raise £60,000 for the ACT on Cancer Campaign to help transform facilities, services and research and purchase scanners to care for cancer patients at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. My challenges to date have raised £58,846.24.

I am fundraising in memory of my husband Pete, who went from being an incredibly strong man to not being able to climb the stairs, but he never lost his spirit. Everyone has their own mountain to climb, and these challenges differ for everyone depending on their circumstances."

Pete was widely known as Dennis of Grunty Fen on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. He was an incredible musician playing the Dobro, guitar and banjo and the first Englishman to play on stage at the Grand Ole Oprey in Nashville.
