Event: London Marathon 2021, on 3 October 2021
We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

As some of you are already aware, my colleague and friend, Amit, and I were due to
run our first ever marathon last October in the London Marathon. This was
subsequently cancelled and rearranged for Sunday 3 October 2021. We did
however, complete the virtual marathon on the day.

Throughout last year, we had started fund raising for Alzheimer’s Research UK (thank you to those of you who have already donated), which is a fantastic charity and the UK’s leading dementia research charity. It is one that is very close to our hearts having seen our grandparents live with the disease.

Since starting our training, Amit unfortunately ruptured his achilles and is unable to run this year. He has managed to defer his spot until 2023 and will continue to raise money for the charity. I will be running the race solo this year and I am deep into my training plan (having just completed 18 miles last Sunday!).

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Backed by their passionate scientists and supporters, they’re challenging the way people think about dementia, uniting the big thinkers in the field and funding the innovative science that will deliver a cure.

Their mission is to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025.

Chetan's story

This is a charity which is very close to my heart as I sadly lost my grandad, Bapa, to advanced dementia/Alzheimer's in December 2018. He was suffering with this for around 6-7 years and having lived with him for over 30 years I witnessed the demise associated with this disease. Not only about how it affected my Bapa but also the loved ones around him who cared for and supported him. I am very proud to be supporting this charity so it can help other individuals who may have Alzheimer's as well as provide support to their family.

Amit's story

My grandmother (Ma) and grandfather (Aajoba) both suffered with dementia/Alzheimer's prior to leaving us in 2005 and 2007and being able to witness the immense strength shown by those around them in supporting them with tasks we don't think twice about reminds be everyday how special it is to be surrounded by selfless friends and family.

Having the chance to raise money for a charity looking to make breakthroughs in dementia treatment by participating in an event as special as the London Marathon fills me with immense pride and enables us all to help in providing the support required by those not lucky enough to receive help from their loved ones.

Your donations count

with your support, the charity is working across four key areas of action:

understand the diseases that cause dementia

Diagnose people earlier and more accurately

Reduce risk, backed by the latest evidence

Treat dementia effectively

Through these important strands of work, we're bringing about breakthroughs that will change lives.

Any donation you can give will be gladly received by the charity.

Thank you

Chetan and Amit
