Manchester to Lourdes Cycle 2013 · 19 July 2013

The Salford Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage takes place each year. With over 750 pilgrims, the pilgrimage supports sick, elderly and infirm pilgrims travel to Lourdes. They also support carers, volunteer helpers and young people who assist sick pilgrims take part in the pilgrimage.

Story

Whilst reminiscing about the success of the Manchester to Lourdes bike ride that my friends had done in 2011 we decided it would be a good idea to organise to do it again and raise some money for charity. Having had a few beers it seemed like a good idea at the time, but now the reality of the effort required is becoming evident! We have 6 riders in the team (none of us are real cyclists and not all of us own a bike!) and will be cycling around 1,300 kilometres / 900 miles (close to ½ million pedal rotations each!).

The purpose of the challenge is to raise money so that children with disabilities / special needs and their families can go on the Salford Diocese Pilgrimage to Lourdes in 2013. We have set ourselves a challenging target of raising an average of £800 per cyclist, as that is the cost for taking each child. For rider comfort, we are looking for the weather to be warmer than normal in the UK and cooler than normal in France, so your prayers as well as your donations are most welcome!

A few more clicks and you’ll have helped make a child with disabilities / special needs very happy.
