The team of 7 friends & colleagues comprising of Yorkshire Ambulance Service Paramedics & Technicians & a Pinderfields A&E Nurse all from Wakefield are taking part in a charity skydiving event to raise funds for the Childrens Heart Surgery Fund @ LGI.

Facing their fears in one of the most extreme ways possible for the exceptionally brave Children who undergo life saving heart surgery each year.

The charity has a very personal bond with Steven Massheder and wife Debbie after their newborn baby boy, Evan, underwent surgery at just 14 hours old. Heres their story...

When my son, Evan, was born all seemed normal. He then became poorly and was taken to intensive care. We were quickly told the devasting news that he had a congenital heart defect and required complex open heart surgery to survive.

The doctors and nurses involved in his care were unbelievably amazing. Just hours later, Evan, was taken for emergency open heart surgery. Thankfully all went well. It was an unbelievably difficult time for my wife Debbie, and I.

His surgery was funded and supported by the Childrens Heart Surgery Fund.

This was then followed by a week, In which we can only describe as from hell for him, in the PICU at LGI. Collapsed lungs, Pulmonary oedema and constant monitoring. Through all this the charity continued to support us and the ward staff were amazing. He then spent a week on High dependency ward, where the unwavering support continued.

This charity and the fantastic team of doctors, surgeon, nurses and specialists are the reason my son is now 11 months old. He is now doing very well and faces a fantastic future. We are now able to treasure every moment with him.

This charity needs every bit of support we can all give for the future of children with diagnosed and undiagnosed congenital heart disorders. Words can not describe how sincerely grateful we are as a family.
