The Chilterns is under threat from overbearing development, habitat loss and climate change. We work in conservation, access, heritage and planning to tackle some of the most serious challenges to the environment so visitors and residents can connect with nature and enjoy the countryside.

Story

Michael,  my husband, who died in January 2019, cared deeply about the environment. As an architect, and latterly urban designer, his particular concern was creating good 'human habitat' as part of the wider global and local 'biosphere issues'. As a historian he understood the pull of legacy in trying to improve places for the future.

The River Wye in the Chilterns brings all of that together. As a chalk stream it is a globally rare habitat, but it runs for almost all of its length through urban environments. And historically it was central to the reason why High Wycombe - where we live - and the various villages on the way to the Thames, were established, with all the mills along its length.

Raising funds for improvement works to the River, for both wildlife, and for the enjoyment of people, is therefore a fitting tribute.

The 'Revive the Wye' partnership was set up to improve the quality and sense of place of the River Wye. The Chiltern Society is a Revive the Wye partner. It provides banking facilities for the partnership and is kindly sponsoring this JustGiving page on my behalf so that the Society can use the funds raised to make improvements to the River Wye. We are also Chiltern Society members.
