Story
Due to the current lockdown I am unable to work at the moment so I wanted to do something productive with my time.
I have been using my permitted daily exercise to get back on my road bike, cycling along all the local lanes I used to ride when I was young. I soon realised just how much I enjoy it and have missed getting out on two wheels.
I wanted to use this enforced time off work as an opportunity to do something positive and raise money for charity. I had already been in touch with the Alzheimer's Society and I was planning to take part in some group charity events this year but the Coronavirus outbreak has meant that all group events have been cancelled.
Individual fund raising is still possible though so I have decided to take part in my own 'virtual' cycle to Pucks Glen, Dunoon, Scotland.
We were actually on holiday up in Dunoon earlier this year but had to cut our holiday short because of the lockdown. I like the idea of cycling back to somewhere we love to visit even if it is only virtually.
With 326 miles to cover, I plan to do a virtual cycle by recording my mileage on local rides (using my daily exercise allowance) and home training. The challenge will be to complete the distance of 326 miles by the end of May 2020. I will be cycling every other day as I need to alternate between bike rides and dog walking due to the restriction of only one form of exercise allowed per day.
I have chosen to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society in 2020 as this is a charity close to our hearts. My Nan passed away in December 2019, she had been living with dementia for many years.
I’ll be riding in memory of my Nan Mavis Rigby.
Anything you can donate, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
