Chloe's journey to the London Marathon for the HDA

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
Hey! My name is Chloe, and I’m a 26 year old actuary from London. For those that don’t me well, I have a real passion for fitness but a real hatred for running, which is why I had the bright idea to sign up to my first half marathon and full marathon in the same year…
Huntington's Disease is a genetic disorder which affects around 8,000 people in the UK. It can cause changes with movement, learning, thinking and emotions and gradually worsens over time.
I remember first hearing about Huntington’s in my GCSE biology class when we were learning about dominant and recessive genes. At this point, I had no idea that I was at risk of developing the disease as my family history of Huntington’s was hidden. My grandma is currently in the later stages of Huntington’s disease. This has been extremely difficult for both myself and my family as there is no cure for Huntington’s and, whilst there are some treatments that can help with symptoms, ongoing funding is required for research to improve the quality of life of those suffering with the disease.
I feel really privileged to be running the 2022 London Marathon for the Huntington’s Disease Association. They have been an amazing support for me during my testing process and helping me understand my ongoing options. If you would like to read more about the work that the HDA do, please visit their website at https://www.hda.org.uk/
I’m planning on keeping everyone up to date with my progress and training, including a couple of races such as the Hackney Half Marathon in May.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated, and if you would like to know more about Huntington’s or my story then please feel free get in touch.
Thank you!!
