9 year old Chloe has been fighting a rare form of cancer called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (or LCH) since she was diagnosed at just 4 months old. She started receiving chemotherapy straight away but her disease proved very resistant and it soon spread from her skin and skull to her liver, spleen, gut and bone marrow. Just before her first birthday Chloe became seriously ill. To save her life she had to undergo intensive chemotherapy, spending 8 weeks in hospital, but this still failed to get rid of the disease. Thanks to research, a drug was found which gave Chloe a chance - an experimental targeted inhibitor treatment which is now working to keep the LCH at bay. More research is needed, however, in order to find a cure for LCH so that Chloe and others can be safe and disease free.
LCH is such a rare disease that there is very little funding available to research its treatment or raise awareness and provide support for sufferers and their families. Histio UK is an organisation that seeks to raise these much needed funds through charitable fundraising.
