Story
I met Karen Darke (adventurer, paralympic athlete, speaker and author) earlier this year and was inspired to undertake a challenge to support her 'Quest 79' initiative, culminating in the creation of the Pole of Possibility (see pop.karendarke.com). This is an Antarctic Expedition designed to show that ordinary people can do extraordinary things by expanding their horizons from a personal level, first into their local communities, then potentially having a global effect.
It stuck a chord as my daughter, Chloe, has cerebral palsy and the challenges and frustrations that come with that can serve to reduce, rather than expand, her horizons. She is capable of more than she realises, so to help her discover that and start to expand her own horizons - and hopefully inspire others - we have set ourselves a shared challenge. Both Chloe and I love riding bikes. Chloe has an adapted trike at school, but recently we found a tandem we can pedal together. Our aim, in keeping with Karen’s ‘Quest 79’ theme, is to cycle 79 miles from Bristol back to our home near Newbury, supported by Chloe's uncle, my brother Ollie.
The event will take place on the 22nd August 2020
Please sponsor our ride as we aim to expand the horizons of ourselves and others.
