Aurelia Segrue is raising money for Little Princess Trust

Chloe’s little princess trust contribution. · 18 October 2020

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions. The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.

Story

My name is Chloe, I am 10 years old. 2020 has been hard, not only because of COVID but because I lost my grandma to cancer. She lived in France and had been ill for a long time and I couldn't even go to the funeral.

Last year me, my mum and my brother ran the St Albans Race for Life together to raise money because cancer affects so many families and we wanted to do something to help.

My grandma being ill made me think on how I would feel if it was me who was ill. It is bad enough as a grown up but as a child I think it would be even harder. I love my hair - but not the brushing or the knots - and I love choosing my hairstyle before going to school or on special occasions. I realised some children might not have that luxury and read about how the Little Princess Trust try to make things better for children who lost their own hair by making wigs for them. We can help too by donating our own hair as well as money.

I decided to wait until I had at least 12 inches to give and hope it makes a child in need feel happy, confident and feel more like themselves despite what they are going through. I would also love to raise at least £550 which is how much it costs to make and fit one wig for one child.

Thinking about having my hair cut so short makes me feel worried as I always have had long hair but I am ready to do it to make someone happy, and I know my Grandma would be proud of me.
