Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page (and the essay that Jillian has written!)

Our Dads had been best friends for over 50 years.  When Neville and Pat (Chris's Mum and Dad) got married in 1966 Trevor (Jillian's Dad) was best man.  When Neville and Pat moved down to Plymouth in 1968 they lost touch for coming up for 20 years (mobiles and facebook hadn't been invented then!).  A chance meeting in the Swan and Cemetery in early 1986 rekindled their friendship and our parents spent a great deal of the next 30 years enjoying nights out and holidays together.  It was on one of these nights out in 1987 that brought us together and 32 years on here we are!

December 2016 to October 2017 was our annus horribilis - we lost 5 family members in that period including Jillian's Mum and both our Dads. Our Dads spent their last days in Bury Hospice and passed away 9 days apart.  It was after seeing the wonderful care and support that the Hospice provides that we decided we had to do something to help with the continuous fundraising that the Hospice has to do just to keep going.

So here we are...  We've decided to put our two left feet to good use and have a go at a bit of ballroom dancing!  We did dabble in a few lessons some years ago but we can assure you that after our first meet up for the event a few weeks ago we have certainly forgotten everything we were taught!

On 7th December we will be joining our fellow dancers, following 12 weeks of dance lessons, and will be competing in Strictly Best Foot Forward 2019!  Our target is to raise £1,000, not least because we want to be able to add a heart to the fundraising wall at the Hospice in memory of our Dads.
