RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Dear Family & Friends,

As many of you know, since my father, Captain Andrew
Brooking, passed away back in 2016, I have been raising funds for the RNLI, the
Charity we collected for at his funeral. It was only then that I discovered the
RNLI relies purely on charitable donations to fund itself and doesn’t receive
any meaningful government funding. https://rnli.org/support-us/how-your-support-helps/where-your-money-goes?_gl=1*1w2p7if*_up*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAjw6MKXBhA5EiwANWLODONG8jVrj-qRENE81DA9Yh5YZak2T3jpUttcm6YOEFUz1imZ09BHfxoCebEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

The volunteers for the Lifeboats are the lifeblood of the
RNLI, making up all the crew and shore crew members. Not only do they save
lives at Sea, but we all saw their efforts to save lives when people were
breaking COVID lock down rules, and we have seen them caught up in the tragic
migrant crisis. Increasingly, they are also providing help/rescue to mental
health patients who have attempted to take their own lives from one of London’s
bridges. The RNLI crew members dedication knows no ends!

Since 2017, I have run the London Marathon every year
(including 1 virtual one) and have managed to raise more than £34,000 for the
Lifeboats, thanks to many of you for your past generosity, and thanks to some
fabulous corporate sponsorship as well.

2022 will mark my last year of fundraising for the RNLI, so
I thought I would make it an extra challenging year for me. So far this year I
have completed the Ride London 100, and I will be taking part in the Swim
Serpentine & London Marathon to complete the ‘London Classics’. To top it
off, I will be trying to complete my first (and likely only) Full distance
Ironman triathlon. The hard yards are much easier to take when you know it’s helping
to raise funds for such a special cause.

To that end, I kindly ask that if you can support the RNLI
in anyway, it would be very much appreciated. We have and will continue to see
an increasing use of our beaches and waterways in the UK and the RNLI needs our
support now more than ever.

I appreciate that times are increasingly difficult for us
all, and I appreciate the past generosity of many of you. Your support will
make the tough parts of my endeavours bearable!

Thank you!
