We have funded over 100 research projects tackling many forms of cancer. In 2012 we opened a dedicated clinical trials centre at Leicester Royal Infirmary to offer patients access to new medicines and therapies. We also fund two nurses who add to the care and support trials patients receive.

My dear friend Jodie Johnson, who passed away in 2015, is the reason Hope Against Cancer is the charity I have a special link with and why I contribute to their cause.

She was like my little Sister, we were very close. She looked after my children, when they were younger, we went to the Rugby together, we socialised, had similar interests and friends, and she also worked for me for two years. But she lived with liver cancer for the final years of her life.  While she was only given three months to live, she survived that deadline and lived on for over two years after.

While she battled with her cancer, I introduced her to Corinne, Barbara, Nigel and the team at HOPE Against Cancer,  and she took to them so much.  They all loved her and her attitude to life!  It was just positive all of the time.  She was so positive, determined and happy about life  and determined that the cancer wasn’t going to rule it.

She is the true inspiration behind my charity work.  Since she died I have done some incredible things to raise money and promote HOPE.  From our Lands End to John O’Groats challenge, a skydive, our Calendars, Golf Day, Curry nights, the list goes on…..  With even more things planned for the future.

It was something I spoke to her about, we both wanted to thank the team at HOPE for their support and continue their journey into research for a cure.

When HOPE named one of their projects after her I was blown away, It was such a wonderful way to remember her.  If she was here now she’d be saying 'What’s next? What can we do? You can make a difference, so do it!'

I feel I'm doing things for the right reason, I can feel proud and look back to say that I’ve contributed towards a truly great cause. She still gives me the determination and the belief to be better.

During this challenge, we will be taking part in various challenges which will test us both physically and mentally.  Activites, include:

Trekking and Grade 1-2 scrambling/climbing & abseiling/coasteering and water jumps/raft building/camping and the one I will struggle with most.... Yoga and Mindfullness!  Anyone who knows me, knows that I can't sit still for long!

Thank you for your support, it means the world to me - and to Jodie.
