Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 17th - 20th June I am driving coast to coast, from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Yorkshire coast (approx 200 miles) on my 1948 Grey Fergie Tractor to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
When I lost my Mum to cancer in 2009 I decided then that I would like to raise funds for Cancer Research. We live on the Coast to Coast at Keld in the Yorkshire Dales and Glenda, my wife, welcomes walkers into our home for bed and breakfast. After hearing so many amusing stories from our guests about their experiences as they walk across England I decided I would like to have a go too. Being a farmer I don't have the time to walk the breadth of the country but thought it would be a novel idea and hopefully lots of fun to drive across on my vintage tractor. The planned route follows Wainwrights path where ever possible with a few diversions to avoid the Lakeland mountains and Yorkshire fells! My Grey Fergie is 63 years old, has no cab, lights or indicators and travels at about 10 mph! If you see me along the route please give me a wave. Your encouragement will be appreciated. We are already gaining lots of local support. Thanks to Taylor & Braithwaite for transport to St Bees and to Reeth Garage for offering to bring the old girl home from Robin Hood's Bay. I'm talking about the tractor, Glenda is driving home herself! A special thank you to Chris Whitehead of Pickhill near Thirsk who has meticulously prepared the Fergie for its journey. Also thank you to everyone who has already donated or sponsored me. We have an huge yet exciting challenge ahead but the cause is very worthwhile so please donate if you can. Wish me luck and watch this space. Thanks
