I’m going to attempt to run the Coast 2 Coast nonstop on June 5th-6th 2021 in aid of Dementia UK.

Whitehaven (Cumbria) to South Shields (Tyne & Wear) about 130 miles.

I’m doing this in aid of my mam who was diagnosed with dementia last year. We have noticed a massive change in her mental health over the past 18 months - 2 years, while this didn’t come as a complete surprise, we as a family still find it difficult to come to terms with.

It all started about 9 years ago when my mam - completely out of the blue - suffered a stroke. This immediately took away her peripheral vision and with it, her confidence. My mam then unfortunately, but unknown to any of us, had another stroke in 2016 which caused more damage to her brain and took away a lot of her independence. 

Sadly over the past 2 years, her health has deteriorated quite rapidly and she is now registered blind, suffers with dementia, is heavily dependent on my dad and other family members and, sadly is not the same great independent person she once was.

Any money that your able to spare will be greatly appreciated as it will go towards research for Dementia UK and families that have to deal with this heartbreaking illness.
