The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) is a fundraising and grant-giving nature conservation charity offering recognition, training and grants to support the project work of proven grassroots conservation leaders in the Global South.

Story

I've been lucky to attend the annual Whitley Awards ceremony for the last few years and been moved by the stories of their prize winners. In particular I love the way the winners often engage with the wider community, standing up against the status quo, to drive changes in behaviour which have significant impact on their environment.

Before taking on this challenge, I had only run more than 10km once (when I got lost trying to run 10km...). I need to work through old knee injuries and face up to my growing bon-viveur's paunch to get over the line in an acceptable time. I was targeting a time of two hours until I realised that the elevation over the 21km is equivalent to climbing a 100+ story building... so now I'm aiming for sub 2 hours 15.

By popular request, if donations reach an appropriate level I'll 'consider' racing in fancy dress. Include suggestions in the comments.
