Story

I have hardly cycled the length of myself for a number of years now and only took the bike out of its bag during lockdown, where it has been since Ride London 2017.

Foolishly I have agreed to participate in a ride of 600km over 5 days  (although I am only doing 3 days of around 380 km and 5,590 m ascent) from the Hadrian’s Wall to the mouth of the River Hamble. It looks like torture, particularly the first two stages from Hexham to Kettlewell (138 km + 2,210 m) and then onto Buxton (124 km + 2,410 m) raises the obvious question .....

Why?

My colleague, James Cook came up with the idea and is honouring a promise he made to his late father, Humphrey, which is to ride from Hadrian’s Wall to the Hamble where he kept his beloved yacht. Sadly, Humphrey died from a brain tumour. James’s twin sister was diagnosed with an anaplastic astrocytoma in 2012 and survives today, which is nothing short of a miracle. Plus, we lost a much loved colleague at work, Aimee Stoffel, from a brain tumour last year.

Therefore, we are looking to raise much needed funds for the Brain Tumour Charity. The Charity is at the forefront of the fight to defeat brain cancer and helps the lives of people with a brain tumour and their families.

A group from the Federated Hermes office are attention it and I will try and not slow them down!
