Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 2023 · 14 May 2023 ·

Martin House Children's Hospice provides vital care to help children and young people with a life-limiting condition, along with their families, to live well and fully, offering the best possible end of life care and support to the family in bereavement.

Story

On 14th May of this year, I will be running all 26.2 miles of the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon.  I picked up running again during lockdown and when I saw that 2023 was going to see the first of these events, I blindly jumped at the opportunity.  I've since looked at the route back from Otley and found how much I underestimated the challenge, but sod it!

I'm running my first marathon for Martin House children's hospice in Wetherby.  It's a great cause that means a lot to our family.  Not only have they supported both our nieces, Emily and Sophie, throughout their lives (and continue to do so) - providing respite, fun and care - they also supported Emily and the wider family throughout the difficult time of her death. No family should lose a child, but for any family placed in that painful position, having a team there to offer practical and emotional support is invaluable.

"Martin House supports children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, across West, North and East Yorkshire. Our vision is that every child and young person has access to palliative care when and where they need it."
