Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
I thought it would be nice to try and raise some money for charity during the second national lockdown which started on 5th November and is scheduled to end on 2nd December. So I’m attempting to run 300km during this time.
I started running more during the initial lockdown, and this carried over into a summer of gradually increasing distance and frequency of runs. Because of this, with little change likely and winter and Christmas looming, now seemed to be as good a time as any to try and use this daily exercise for a good cause. I’ve been thinking a lot about those people in more difficult circumstances than myself, who might have been furloughed, or lost their jobs or even homes. And that those without homes don’t have anywhere safe or secure to stay during this uncertainty.
300km seemed like an achievable target - at the moment I’m usually running about 260-280km per month so I’m hopefully not stretching myself too far. To provide a little context, 300km is:
- 2/3 the length of the Grand Canyon
- 2.5x the length of Hadrian’s Wall
- 3x the width of the English Channel
Or running in a straight line from Huddersfield to Southampton, Dublin or Glasgow!
I don’t really take a phone with me on runs, finding the constant pressure to improve a bit too much of a distraction. Instead I wear a stopwatch and plot runs out on https://onthegomap.com/ later. I record this in Strava and it’s being auto-posted below, but to hopefully provide a bit more evidence, I’ve also been exporting my routes as .gpx files and am populating a spreadsheet to track progress. The files and sheet are available here.
