What are the Yorkshire Peaks?

The Yorkshire Three Peaks route is 24 miles (38.6km), and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent. The challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours, (we are aiming for 9) These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Why am I doing this?

It’s been a while since I’ve been for a walk that isn’t to/from a station or education setting. I heard about some colleagues doing the challenge and added my name to the list (after getting a permission slip of course!) It also provides a socially acceptable reason to eat for 9 hours, I like eating and trail snacks are a must!

It also gives me a nice opportunity to raise some money for WFISPTA.

What is WFISPTA?

Wallace Fields Infant School & Nursery PTA supports the school by raising vital funds to enhance, enrich and improve learning experiences for all the children in school. There is huge pressure on the funds of all schools in the current climate and the PTA has a crucial role in helping to ensure the children still benefit from the little extra luxuries that the school may not otherwise be able to fund. WFIS PTA is currently fundraising for a number of items including a coding workshop, a storyteller workshop, a disability awareness workshop, music curriculum resources, new books to reflect diversity in the school community and British society (for Black History Month), new phonics/reading scheme books to support the teaching of phonics, golden pencils to support children to move their handwriting on, story sacks for nursery children and curriculum resources for the whole school’s termly topics.
