I'll be setting off in January for Costa Rica and Nicaragua to support and take part in a Raleigh expedition: Raleigh challenge and empower young people (17-24) and communities to deliver grassroots sustainable development, working in rural settings and focussing on access to safe water and sanitation, protecting vulnerable environments and building community resilience. My personal goals will be to:

·         Help young people develop their interpersonal skills and be all that they can be!

·         Work on key projects focussed mainly around health and sanitation (eco-sanitation units, gravity water feed systems, tribal housing) and education (schools, kindergartens)

·         Positively contribute to host countries where Raleigh has a permanent base

·         Endure and adapt to the manual and physically demanding work, basic living conditions and food (...plus the no alcohol policy :-)

Some brilliant examples of the work carried already carried out in Costa Rica and Nicaragua...!

·         Implemented water projects in 39 communities bringing clean drinking water to over 1,500 people.

·         Built 5 pre-schools and 14 primary schools to improve the educational opportunities of the youngest members of these communities.

 

·         Constructed 26 community centres in the Miraflor-Moropotente Nature Reserve to provide a focus for communities to work together to develop sustainable livelihoods.
