Chris's Festive First Ever 10k...

#TeamNDCS Virtual Running Challenge · 31 December 2020 ·
If you'd told me last year that I'd be running my first 10k, I wouldn't have believed you.
However as of last Autumn I started running, have managed 5ks without falling over, and am now ready to try my first ever 10k! I'll be running in the beautiful Peak District, which is famously flat and mud-free - PERFECT for running! And in great news, I'm guaranteed a personal best.
Please sponsor my first ever 10k to raise money for the wonderful National Deaf Children's Society. With lockdown and everything else that's happened, deaf children are more in need of support than ever. Your kindness and generosity will mean there is someone to answer the phone to a worried parent who's just found out their child is deaf.
Important: As it's Christmas - the more we raise, the more I will transform into a running Santa!
UNLOCKED £100 - Santa hat
UNLOCKED £200 - Santa beard
UNLOCKED £300 - (just above the average for a 10k run) - full-on Santa suit
UNLOCKED £450 - SantaCam! Santa will take footage from his magical journey using a GoPro or similar and share it for your delectation
UNLOCKED £600 - Merry Santa! Santa will stop along route for a traditional glass of port and a mince pie... and then keep going!
£1200 SUPER STRETCH GOAL - JINGLE BELLS! I will run wearing a some sleigh bells, for a not-at-all-irritating musical accompaniment....
I can't promise to run very fast, but I can promise jollity! Some of it may be slightly forced jollity, but jollity nonetheless.
Don't worry, photo evidence will be provided! Maybe even video evidence...
THE ROUTE
You can see the route I'm planning if you click the photo at the top and go to the next photo! I'll be running along the Longendale Trail, which is a disused railway line that heads out from where I live in Hadfield towards the Peak District. After about 4km the trail meets the Pennine Way. At this point I'll turn left and downhill, to the Longendale Trail reservoirs. I'll run alongside Rhodeswood Reservoir, cross over the Valehouse Dam, run alongside the Valehouse Reservoir, and then do a loop around the Bottoms Reservoir.
WHEN
Sometime over Christmas! I'm not selecting a specific date now, because it's 2020 and who knows what is going to happen when. However, sometime over Christmas. It'll also have to be a clear day - no-one likes a soggy Santa!
