On Saturday the 30th October at 1pm, I’ll be joining 3 friends to take part in the annual Red Bull Timelaps 25 hour bike race.  On the day the clocks go back, teams of 4 race around Goodwood race track from 1pm to 1pm and the furthest distance wins.

Despite cycling fairly regularly, I’ve never done an event anywhere near this duration, and certainly not one that goes through the night, and in October weather, so this will certainly be a challenge!  

Whilst we’d like to be competitive, I don’t think it will be straightforward to even complete the event, with all the things that can go wrong in something like this.  I anticipate that we will need to clock up something like 600miles over the 25 hour race!

I’ve chosen Strongmen as the charity that I’m supporting due to the fantastic work that they do in helping men deal with bereavement. Mental health issues in men are on the rise generally and it’s the lack of easily available support that causes the huge suicide rate in men more broadly; add in the bereavement of a partner, child or other loved one and the situation is incredibly difficult.  Strongmen provide a range of support options tailored specifically for men and are somewhat unique in their approach.
