Story

Mont Ventoux is probably the second most famous cycling climb in the world after Alpe d'Huez.

Translated as the 'windy' mountain the summit stands at over 1,909 meters and is subject to wind speeds of over 90 km per hour 240 days per year.

Mont Ventoux has become legendary as the scene of one of the most gruelling climbs in the Tour De France bicycle race, which has ascended the mountain 14 times since 1951. The mountain achieved worldwide notoriety in the 1967 tour when it claimed the life of British cyclist Tom Simpson who rode himself to exhaustion on the slopes and died. He began to wildly weave across the road before he fell down. He was delirious and asked spectators to put him back on his bike, which he rode until half a mile from the summit before collapsing dead still clipped into his pedals.

The team climb Mont Ventoux on the second day of the AAT 300 Cycle Challenge, which sees the team ride a total of 300km and climb a total of 3000m. The ascent to the summit of Mont Ventoux contributes only 26km to the total distance but within that distance we will climb 1232m on an average gradient of 7.5%.
