Story

Update:  Thanks you so much for the donations and the support.  As for the race, I finished 10th overall with a time of 22 hrs and 26 minutes.  It was an amazing experience.

Here's the full results from the race organizer's site: http://www.4deserts.com/100/taklamakan/rtptk2.php?SID=3&SBID=RC3&competitorsBiosNum=5

If you have not donated yet it is definitely not too late.

On August 20th I will be running in a 100 kilometer race in the Taklamakan Desert in Southwestern China for a charity called the Christina Noble Children's Foundation.  The Christina Noble Children's Foundation provides care and services for underprivileged children in Vietnam and Mongolia.  It's a great charity that does a ton of direct good at the grass roots level.  Beth and I have been sponsoring a few children in Mongolia through the charity for several years and we have seen the direct benefit of our sponsorship on the girls and their families.

Here's the Foundation's site: http://www.cncf.org/en/about_cncf/index.php

...and here are some details on the race I'm running:  http://www.4deserts.com/100/taklamakan/rtptk.php?SID=2&SBID=RD3

My goal is to raise at least USD $100,000  (65,000 GBP) for specific projects that CNCF has in motion.  We discussed the areas of greatest need and identified the following projects which would be direct beneficiaries of the target amount:

Mongolia - Establishment of a Blue Skies Kindergarten for children from the Blue Skies Ger Village for homeless children and other children from the local community.

Mongolia -  Funding of a "Drop-In" free medical clinic.

Vietnam - Rural Water Wells project which provides clean water to poverty stricken rural communities.

(See the "Makes a Difference" tab on the CNCF main website for more details on these projects and others).

Goldman Sachs will fully match my donation and any donations made by GS employees, so we're getting great leverage.  I truly hope we can surpass the goal and provide much needed funds and services to little people who desperately need them.

Since the charity is UK based, I am using this UK based website and donations are in British Pounds.  The conversion rates as of August 5 are 1 GBP = 1.58 USD and 1 GBP = 12.35 HKD.

For those of you who want to donate directly via check or wire transfer, I have forms and details (including for AMEX) which I can email to you.  If you'd like to donate in a form other than cash please contact me and we'll work it out with the charity.
