Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 1st September, just a week before I'm 58, I'm going to be competing in my first Triathlon. I'll be swiming 200m, cycling 16km and running 2500m.
Why? Good question! As with so many of theses sort of thing the answer is 'Because.." Because if you need to ask the question, you'll not understand the answer. Amongst the many 'becauses' is that my teenage son, Matt, has now done 3 triathlons and has raised a lot of money for Meningitis UK. Matt's first Tri was the Mark Tanton Memorial Triathlon in 2011. Mark Tanton was just 14 when he died from meningitis in September 2010 shortly before he was due to compete in his first triathlon. He went to Campion School in Bugbrooke and was a keen member of the Towcester Rock School. Matt is also a member of the Rock School. http://www.meningitisuk.org/meningitis/advice/awareness-resources/winter-awareness-campaign/mark-tanton.htm
But there is also a family connection with meningitis. My daughter, Matt's sister, Christi had meningitis when she was just six weeks old. Fortunately she survived. The money that you donate will be used to ensure that there are many more like Christi and far fewer like Mark.
