Mount Kilimanjaro Ascent 2013 · 25 August 2013

Provides support, advice and care for those affected by cancer.

Story

I am undertaking a 6 day group trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro from 25 August 2013.  Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest ‘walkable’ mountain in the world.  Reaching the summit of the Uhuru Peak at the extreme altitude of 5,896m is regarded as one of the greatest outdoor challenges on the planet – the final ascent is overnight and temperatures could drop to -25 degrees Celsius.

I would like to take the opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause.  Vine House (Cancer Help (Preston)) is a small independent charity based close to my home town.  They provide emotional, physical and social support to patients, carers and families through the impact of cancer diagnosis, the effects of the disease and the side effects of treatment.

Current statistics show that one in three people in the UK will be affected by cancer.  Through two day care centres, the charity provides 6,000 patient visits/contacts per year with a wide range of services including counselling, advice, specialist and complementary therapies, self help, education and information and beareavement support.

I am happy to provide further information about this cause and would be grateful if you could spare a few pounds to assist in its valuable work.
