One million tonnes of food is thrown away by the UK hospitality and food service sector each year. At the same time over 8 million people in the UK suffer from food insecurity. It’s a crazy situation, but here is one solution:.

Plan Zheroes inspires businesses to donate their surplus food to local charities, instead of sending it to landfill.

In 2020 we helped businesses to donate over 180 tonnes of food to charities in their community – that’s the equivalent of over 440,000 meals and a saving of over 740 equivalent tonnes of CO2 emissions. We did this with just one part-time member of staff and a team of unstoppable volunteers.

We use an online platform to connect food businesses to charities. We have no office, storage or transport costs to bear, so all the funding we receive goes directly to getting good food to people in need.
