Story

Update 26/4 - Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me. With further 'offline' donations still to add on, the total now stands in excess of £1000. Unfortunately, the run didn't go quite as well as I had hoped. I was on target for sub 3 hours  until around 20 miles but then I started to slow up as my legs got heavy and I eventually finished in 3h 4m. Although outside my target, this time still gives me an automatic "good for age" entry for next year (though I did think "never again" yesterday!). The final miles really did hurt but the sponsor money was a great help to keep me going to the finish. There's still plenty of time to sponsor me, I know that Daisy's Dream would really appreciate any further donations.

Thanks,

Chris

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It's that time of year again! After a long slog of training through snow, wind, rain and freezing temperatures, the London Marathon is rapidly approaching. This year I've decided to raise funds for Daisy's Dream, a charity that supports bereaved children and their families throughout Berkshire and the surrounding areas (registered charity no 1067739). Website: http://www.daisysdream.org.uk/

As you can see from the pictures, I'm a veteran of 10 London Marathons (all sub 3 hours), my first one being way back in 1991. My Personal Best was set in 1994 with a time of 2 hours 37 minutes while for six years I managed to run almost identical times (between 2h 41m and 2h 42m). After a break of 9 years I was back last year as a Veteran (45+) with a time of 2h 58m. My target this year is to maintain my record and again finish in under 3 hours. I'm 47 now so it's certainly not getting any easier!

Please help me keep me going through the "wall" by donating to this worthy cause.

Update 23/3 : Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far. I've received so many positive comments about the "Daisy's Dream" charity and have had a great response with sponsorship so I've just updated my target amount from £500 to £750! My training is going ok though legs are a bit sore at the moment after running in the Reading Half Marathon on Sunday with a time of 1h 23m (manged to finish 6th in the Male Veteran 45+ category).

Update 1/4 : The money raised so far has just reached £600. With many pledges/promises received, I'm hopeful that the total will get close to £1000 in the next 3 weeks, so I've updated my target amount accordingly. Training has been going ok, managed a 23 mile training run from Earley along the Thames to Whitchurch, Pangbourne and back (via Sonning) on Sunday in 3hrs 15m. This will be my longest training run, will begin to ease off the training after Easter.
